Heimar og Himingeimar Ignites a Weekend of Pure Joy
There were 10 thousand visits to the Heimar og himingeimar festival held at the Hafnarfjörður Library last weekend. The festival was spectacular.
“Everything exceeded our wildest expectations. Everyone is pumped to do it again next year,” says Unnur Helga Möller, event director at the Hafnarfjörður Library and festival manager.
Attendees could see a Star Wars spaceship, the R2-D2 robot from the same film, the DeLorean time-travel car from the famous Back to the Future movies, and countless LARPers, as well as others in costumes, at this unique gaming and costume gathering.
“Many came back again and again throughout the weekend. The building was packed the whole time, and it was insanely fun. The weather was wonderful, and there was a lot of excitement on the plaza in front of the library,” says Unnur.
But what stood out the most? “How happy everyone was,” Unnur replies immediately. “The atmosphere and love that formed, the joy that was tangible. That is exactly why we do this. We put our heart and soul into this festival.” Everyone involved in the festival worked hard to make this dream of a magnificent costume and gaming festival in Iceland a reality for the second time at the library.
“Yes, we put blood, sweat, and tears into the festival. Mostly sweat, a little blood, but very few tears,” she says, laughing as she thanks everyone who contributed. “People are already asking what we plan to do next year. Wow, we’re aiming even higher,” she adds, setting a high bar, as the festival was exceptionally impressive, with numerous costume designers and gaming worlds.
“There are more worlds to explore. We even have an entire spaceship in the music department,” says Unnur. This Star Wars spaceship has been requested at international festivals.
“We all worked together on this. Different worlds worked together. No one could do a project like this alone; everyone has to collaborate. This is enormous because everyone decided to come and share joy. By sharing what makes them happy, whether that’s LARP, the Star Wars universe, lightsabers, K-Pop, making costumes, or simply being themselves.
Rec Media captured the joy all weekend and took photos. Let’s enjoy the results together.
