Winter holidays at the preschools

There will be various fun events for the whole family during the winter holidays of primary schools, music schools and partly in Hafnarfjörður’s preschools with the introduction of registration days, on October the 24th and 25th. Among other things there will be free admission to all swimming pools in town, for children and adults during these two days in Ásvallalaug, Suðurbæjarlaug and Sundhöll Hafnarfjarðar. Please note that the after school/recreational centers are closed during these two days. We also want to remind parents that these winter holidays are also enrollment days at the preschool´s.

Thursday, October 24th

• The whole family gets FREE ADMISSION TO ALL OF THE TOWNS SWIMMING POOLS from 6:30-22:00 in Ásvallalaug and Suðurbæjarlaug and in Sundhöll until 21:00.

Hafnarborg museum

• Free art creation – drawing and coloring. Workshop for primary school children, 13:00-15:00. There will be a light atmosphere where the participants of the workshop can come together and draw in collaboration with each other. A joint work of art will be created, in an improvised manner, thus creating one large drawing. The instructor is Sigurður Ámundason.

Hafnarfjörður´s Library (Bókasafn Hafnarfjarðar)

• Family workshop for 6 years and older – 15:00 – 17:00. Art, nature and creativity mix together in this fun workshop for energetic kids and parents. The theme of the day is Monsters and Creatures.
• Planetary Sensory Workshop – 15:00 – 16:30. We invite the little ones to come for a meaningful and stimulating play time together, where they can play and explore the world in a colorful and fun way with other children.

Hafnarfjörður´s Heritage Museum (Byggðasafn Hafnarfjarðar)

• Orienteering game/ treasure hunt at Pakkhúsið – 11:00 – 15:00. Ideal for families to visit the museum with the treasure hunt as a guide.
• Children’s guided tour of Pakkhúsið – 12:00.

Innovation Center (Nýsköpunarsetrið við Lækinn) 17:00 – 22:00

• Improv games for 15-16 year olds! Improvisation is a type of card game in which participants put themselves in the role of another person. The game then usually involves solving the various tasks. The house opens at 17:00 and the game starts at 18:00. Everyone is welcome.

Friday, October 25th

Hafnarborg

• Halloween origami. Workshop for primary school children, 13:00-15:00. In the workshop, participants get to know the art of making origami, or paper fragments, according to the Japanese tradition. Then guests will learn how to fold and shape the paper so that in the process scary decorations are created in the spirit of Halloween. Instructors are Yasuka Kawakami and Ingunn Fjóla Ingþórsdóttir. The instructors speak Icelandic, English and Japanese.

• 13:00 – Movie screening for the litle ones in the multi-purpose hall
• 13:00-17:00 – Orienteering game and self-guided workshop in the children’s department for kids of all ages
