Leisure grant available from age five — Apply today

Leisure Grant for Families with Children

Five-year-old children have now been added to the group eligible for the leisure grant in Hafnarfjörður for their recreational activities. The children will receive half the grant, or 28,500 ISK per year. Until now, Hafnarfjörður municipality has provided the grant to children aged 6–18. The leisure grant will continue this winter.

Using the Grant

How can the grant be used? When parents or guardians register a child electronically for activities with a sports or recreational association, they can choose to apply the leisure grant through Abler for associations that have an agreement with the municipality. The grant is deducted from the monthly participation fees. It is not possible to refund the grant from an association if it has already been applied there.

Associations can be inside or outside Hafnarfjörður. Students in music education can also use the leisure grant.

If an Association Doesn’t Appear

What if the child’s sports association does not appear? If an association is not listed on “My Pages,” you can contact the service center at 585 5500 or hafnarfjordur@hafnarfjordur.is to check whether the association has an agreement with Hafnarfjörður municipality.
