Parenting payments

The municipality of Hafnarfjörður offers payments to parents/guardians of children who are not in kindergarten or with day parents after 12 months of age and until a child turns 30 months. Parental payments amount to the general subsidies provided to day parents for an 8-hour stay. Payments are cancelled if the child starts kindergarten or receives a spot with day parents.

The conditions for parental payments are:

• That the legal domicile of at least one parent and the child is in Hafnarfjörður.
• That the child has turned 12 months and is no older than 30 months. You can request parental payments for a child who is older than 30 months while you are waiting for a spot in kindergarten in Hafnarfjörður if you are not paying for day care elsewhere.
• That the child is on a waiting list for a kindergarten spot in Hafnarfjörður.
• That the parents/guardians are not receiving other subsidies for the child from the municipality of Hafnarfjörður.

Applications for parental payments are received on My Pages, and payments are made on the first day of each month for the previous month. Parenting payments are not paid retroactively.

Please note that the application period is from the 20th of each month to the 19th of the next month.

This means that applications for March, for example, need to be submitted between 20 February and 19 March, with payments starting at the beginning of April.
