Hafnarborg, cultural and arts centre in Hafnarfjörður, exhibits art by leading artists from Iceland and abroad. The exhibition calendar of the museum is varied and offers different media of contemporary visual art as well as regularly showcasing works of Icelandic artists from the early 20th Century.

As a rule, 10–12 art exhibitions are held every year. Lectures and symposiums related to the museum’s exhibitions are frequent, as well as open discussion events for visitors with artists and exhibition managers.

Art workshops and guidance for children are also regular events. During the winter, monthly lunch hour concerts are held with focus is on classical music. The concert series Hlóðön is dedicated to the music of the 20th and 21st Centuries where unique imagination and artistic battles of composers bring the audience into to new territory.

Hafnarborg rents out conference rooms for meetings, concerts, or other events. A guest workshop operated for foreign artists is also operated in Hafnarborg.

Tours

Hafnarborg offers tours of exhibitions for groups upon request, both in Icelandic and English. Each tour can be tailored to the group’s wishes with respect to material, focus and length.
