Ævar vísindamaður visits Hvaleyrarskóli

The hallways of Hvaleyrarskóli were packed this morning when Ævar vísindamaður came for a visit. The students had prepared well for his arrival. Every single wall was decorated with pictures and art they had created from his Þín eigin books. The parents reviewed the work.

“I came here before they started the reading sprint and told them about my books. But I did not expect it to turn out this magnificent,” said Ævar vísindamaður as he walked through the halls of Hvaleyrarskóli and looked at the results.

“I am very scared walking through here.” The scientist and actor clearly had not walked through the haunted house made by the oldest students. Then he surely would have been frightened, it was so well done.

“I find the work that the school staff and students have put into this incredibly beautiful, but also the school’s creativity in thinking up something like this and taking the time to activate the books in this way at school.” The fourth grade had become experts on space, and the third grade on dinosaurs.

“This is extremely well and beautifully done,” says Ævar. For the haunted house, they had looked to the book Skólalita for inspiration. “Wow, wow, really impressive,” he said after visiting it.

Ævar has written numerous books, plays, and easy‑reading books. The next one will be released in May. He takes part in both the spring and the Christmas book floods — he is an industrious author.

Vala Björk Stefánsdóttir, assistant principal, says the reading sprint leading up to this day was focused on reading Ævar’s books. The children had been reading extra at home. Then three days were taken to prepare for this open day held today.

“All classes took part,” says Vala. “The tenth grade made the haunted house, and it is forbidden to enter unless accompanied by an adult.” The teachers are very proud of the result, and the school looks magnificent after this reading sprint based on Ævar’s books.
