Christmas and New Year’s Greeting from the Mayor

Dear residents of Hafnarfjörður,

There is something truly special about walking through Hafnarfjörður in December, seeing the lights come on, hearing the gentle bustle, and feeling the warmth that accompanies Christmas. The Christmas Town of Hafnarfjörður has truly lived up to its name this year, thanks to all of you who actively take part in spreading the joy.

It has now been nearly a year since I took office as Mayor, and I look back with pride on the year that is coming to an end. This is a strong and warm community. Our beautiful town, shaped by the sea and the lava, is full of people who get involved, care deeply, and contribute to making Hafnarfjörður an even better place.

As we enjoy Advent and look forward to the Christmas season just ahead, we must also remember that not everyone experiences this time in the same way. Among us are people going through difficult times, struggling with worry, loneliness, or grief. My thoughts are especially with them during Advent, Christmas, and the New Year. I encourage us all to look around, to greet one another, smile, and lend a helping hand where it is needed.

A new year lies ahead, filled with new projects and opportunities. I look forward to continuing to work with you to make Hafnarfjörður even better for all of us who live and work here.

Dialogue with you, the residents, matters greatly to me, and I encourage you to continue making your voices heard, sharing ideas, suggestions, and questions. I am the mayor of all residents of Hafnarfjörður, and I am here for you.

As I thank you for the year now coming to a close and for the trust you place in me as mayor, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and prosperity in the coming year.
