Town council
Hafnarfjörður Town council consists of 11 municipal representatives that are elected for four years at a time. Town council meetings are open to the public and are both broadcast live and accessible afterwards on the town’s website.

Legal framework
Municipal representatives are elected by proportional representation in accordance with the Local Government Elections Act No. 5/1998. The Town Council governs the town according to the terms of the Municipal Administration Legislation no. 138/2011, Enactment on the Governance of the Hafnarfjörður Township and other laws.
Meetings
Meetings of the Town Council of Hafnarfjörður are held every other Wednesday at 14:00. Meetings of the Town Council are held in the Council’s meeting room at Hafnarborg. Town Council meetings are open to the public and are both broadcast live and accessible afterwards here on the website. Minutes of the Town Council are published on the website after the meeting.
