Autumn enrollment for preschools – applications before March 1st

Preparation and work on the autumn enrollment for preschools in Hafnarfjörður is ongoing these days. Parents and custodians who have yet to apply to a preschool for their child are kindly asked to apply through the Vala registration system. Applications must be submitted by March 1st of the year in which the stay is requested. A child must have a legal residence in Hafnarfjörður to start preschool, but they may be put on a waiting list even if their legal residence is elsewhere.

The oldest children enroll first

It is possible to apply for a preschool stay for a child as soon as their social security number is registered. The waiting list is sorted by date and year, so the oldest children enroll first. It is possible to apply for more than one preschool, and parents and custodians are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the preschools available in Hafnarfjörður.

If there is no vacancy in the 1st choice of preschool, the preschool employs a secondary choice. Preschool is the first level of education and it fosters children with creative and stimulating activities. There are 18 preschools in Hafnarfjörður.
