What does financial assistance entail?

Financial assistance is a temporary measure to help people help themselves.

  • Up to ISK 265.271 financial support for individuals.
  • Up to ISK 424.433 financial support for married or couples living together.
  • There are various support available the a social worker can explain in more detail in counselling session.

 

Where do you apply for financial assistance?

You apply electronically on Ísland.is. In the application process you will be asked for information such as place of residence and income over the last two months. You’ll get an email when the application has been processed or if some data is missing.

  • If your application is approved, you will receive payment by the end of the following month.
  • If your application is rejected, you will receive an explanation why. If you find the explanation unreasonable you can appeal the decision to the Welfare Complaints Committee with the help of your social worker.

Conditions for Financial Assistance

  • The conditions for receiving financial assistance are that the individual resides in Iceland and does not receive support or work in another country.
  • When applying for financial assistance for the first time, or if six months have passed since the last application, the applicant is required to verify their identity by appearing at the service center with valid photo identification within two working days from the date the application is submitted.
