Sweet Spring – Street Sweeping has Begun

Spring sweeping began last week

Spring sweeping of streets, sidewalks and walkways in Hafnarfjörður has begun. It is unusually early this year, due to the good weather conditions the last few days. The spring sweeping time period is April 1st – June 1st each year, with the town divided into 15 neighborhoods and each neighborhood being swept in one day. Emphasis is placed on sweeping the main roads to begin with, but last week Reykjavíkurvegur and Hjallabraut were swept, among others. The progress of spring sweeping will continue to be guided by the weather over the next few days and weeks.

Sweeping schedule of neighborhoods

A specific work schedule involving sweeping of all neighborhoods is implemented between April the 2nd and May 2nd. Signs will be put up in each neighborhood the day before the sweep, along with sending a text message to residents residing in that particular neighborhood. It is a friendly reminder to residents to take an active part so that the results are as good as possible.

It is necessary to keep the streets empty of cars on the day of sweeping so that it is possible to sweep the edges of the roads. Residents and business staff can simultaneously take advantage of the opportunity and sweep around their property. This will make every thing look much more beautiful for the coming season. As soon as the turbine sweeping is complete, high-pressure washing, sweeping of main streets, and work on traffic islands will be undertaken. The work schedule presented is subject to changes that may occur mainly due to weather (frost) and delays by the sweeping contractor.
