The Christmas Village Opened, Cuxhaven Tree Lit and Thousands of Guests

Christmas spirit in Hafnarfjörður over the weekend

The opening weekend of the Christmas Village on Thorsplan was a fantastic celebration. Thousands visited the heart of Hafnarfjörður and enjoyed the moment together. Grýla, Stekkjastaur, and Bjúgnakrækir wandered around the area causing mischief.

The men’s choir Þrestir sang, and the Hafnarfjörður Brass Band played Christmas tunes. Sylvía Melsted and Árni Beinteinn led the event and the ceremony when the Cuxhaven Christmas tree, a gift from our twin town, was lit for the 37th time.

Hjartasvellið was filled with children all weekend, and the atmosphere was lively at Barbara before and after the show Freyðijól at Bæjarbíó. Yes, the town was buzzing with life.

Next weekend will also be exciting. We can allow ourselves to look forward to it.

• 16:00 Princesses prepare for Christmas on Thorsplan
• 18:00–20:00 Photos with Sveinki on the stage at Thorsplan
• 19:00 A performance group from the Hafnarfjörður School of Dance performs on Thorsplan, by Hjartasvellið, and in Hellisgerði

Sunday, November 23d

• 15:30 Tufti and the troll children visit the Hafnarfjörður Museum

Yes, it will be fun to wander through the Christmas houses, enjoy time together, and even stop by the Christmas Heart of Hafnarfjörður, the tent behind Bæjarbíó, which opens next weekend.
