The Light Walk Today — The Town’s Hearts in Orange

The walk will be held in the name of Ólöf Tara Harðardóttir, an activist for women’s and girls’ rights and gender equality, in the annual UN Women Light Walk in Iceland from Arnarhóll today, November 25th, at 17:00. The town’s hearts are orange for the occasion.

Digital Violence Is Real Violence!

UN Women Iceland´s Candlelight March in Memory of Ólöf Tara Harðardóttir

The annual Candlelight March of UN Women Iceland will take place on Tuesday, 25 November at 17:00, on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. The day also marks the beginning of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.

We march in memory of Ólaf Tara Harðardóttir, a dedicated advocate for women’s rights

Ólöf Tara´s family will lead the march, together with Stella Samúelsdóttir, Executive Director of UN Women Iceland, and representatives from Bjarkarhlíð, Druslugangan, Amnesty International Iceland, Kvenréttindafélag Íslands, Kvennaathvarfið, Rótin, Stígamót, Vitund and ÖBÍ.

Candles and FO merchandise will be sold at the event in support of UN Women Iceland.

Where and when?

Meet by the statue of Ingólfur Arnarson on Arnarhóll at 17:00
The march proceeds south along Lækjargata and up Amtmannsstígur
It will conclude at Bríetartorg with a short gathering and a choir performance by Kötlur.

This year’s campaign focuses on digital violence, under the theme “Ending Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.”

Technological progress has created new spaces where violence and harassment thrive unchecked. Nearly 2 in 3 women worldwide have experienced digital gender-based violence.

Digital violence has consequences – serious consequences. It profoundly impacts survivors’ health, wellbeing, and ability to participate in society.

We encourage everyone to join the march and support survivors of gender-based violence.
