VÆB brothers encourage us to have a phone-free summer

There was a great crowd at Thorsplan when the musical brothers from VÆB arrived on Monday and entertained elementary school students from Hafnarfjörður. The goal was to encourage a phone-free summer, to be together in the real world, and look each other in the eyes.

Looking into each other’s eyes all summer long

Thorsplan was packed when the musical brothers of VÆB showed up on Monday and entertained the elementary school students from Hafnarfjörður. The third grade was the first to arrive and sang in the summer under the dedicated guidance of singer Guðrún Árný. Then the VÆB brothers came and brought the energy, which was already high, to the next level.

It became crystal clear just how popular the brothers are, when the middle school grades followed the 3rd graders and rushed to the stage after their performance of our Eurovision entry this year, Róa.

Phone break during the summer holidays

Brothers Matthías Davíð and Hálfdán were not only there to sing. The purpose was clear. They were on behalf of the parents’ council and the municipality of Hafnarfjörður to encourage phone breaks during the summer holidays.

“Let’s look each other in the eyes! You know what that means. Boom,” says Hálfdán, lifting up his characteristic glasses. “We are not going to be on our phones. We are going to look each other in the eyes,” says Hálfdán in the video. The brothers encourage us all to meet with friends and family and have fun.

“That’s kind of how it is,” says Matthías – let’s skip being on the phone.” Hálfdán: “Indeed, it’s simple. Let’s go.”

Let´s be Good Role Models

Kristín Ólöf Grétarsdóttir from the parent council of Hafnarfjörður appears in the video and encourages all of us to participate and be good role models. “This is a cooperative project for all of us and we all have to get involved. Let’s look each other in the eyes. Let’s put our phones down and do something fun together.”

“Let´s look each other in the eyes” is a project of the parents’ council and the municipality of Hafnarfjörður that has been ongoing all winter. The concert was a kind of harvest of the powerful work done this winter, but the campaign received recognition from the national association of parents’ associations of Homes and Schools recently. Indeed, this harvest is truly delightful, and Monday will not be forgotten easily. The news agency of Stöð 2 and Vísir were on site, withtheir news well reflecting the atmosphere at Thorsplan.
