The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður opened last weekend when the lights were turned on the Cuxhaven Christmas tree! The Christmas Village is buzzing with life and excitement for the holidays, and the beautifully decorated Hafnarfjörður Christmas houses have long been nationally known for a wide variety of exciting gifts, gourmet treats, crafts, and design. It’s the perfect place to find the ultimate Christmas gift while enjoying delicious treats that warm you from the inside. The Yule lads visit on weekends, and Grýla will also be roaming the town on Sundays. Strandgata becomes a pedestrian street while the Christmas Village is open.

Café in Hellisgerði, Hjartasvell, and the amusement park

The Christmas Village at Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend from November 14th; Fridays 17:00-20:00, Saturdays 13:00-20:00, and Sundays 13:00-18:00. It will also be open Monday, December 22 from 17:00-20:00, and on Þorláksmessa from 13:00-21:00.

SYDHAVN runs the café in Hellisgerði, open during Christmas Village hours until 20:00. Special attention is drawn to Hjartasvell and the amusement area at Venus House, Strandgata 11, which are open every weekend until Christmas.

Hafnarfjörður Christmas Heart

Thursday – Saturday 17:00-22:00. Christmas Heart in the Advent festival tent behind the Town Cinema. Perfect for parents, grandparents, and groups of friends to visit, enjoy snacks and Christmas drinks. Christmas lobster soup from Tilveran will be available for purchase from 17:00-20:00 on all opening days.

Christmas Scavenger Hunt in the Town Center

Take part in a Christmas scavenger hunt in the Christmas Village and find the thirteen elves, Grýla, Leppalúði, and the Yule Cat! The game involves finding the thirteen figures on lamp posts around town. How do we play? Each lamp post has a sign with the elf’s name and a QR code. Scan it to find the correct letter, write it down, and collect them all. The letters form a short sentence that must be submitted electronically. A help sheet is available at the Library, Heritage Museum, Hafnarborg, and the greenhouses at Thorsplan or can be downloaded online. Participation is open until December 22. Prizes will be awarded on Þorláksmessa.
