My name is Emil Jóhann Sigurðsson, but my artistic name is Emil J. Sig. I started my artistic career in Spain in 2017. I lived there for 1 year and it can be said that Spain made me the artist I am today.
I am a self-taught artist where I have learned to paint through online courses. But in 2021 I got into Reykjavík School of Fine Arts and studied fine arts for 1 year, but before that I had taken several courses at Kópavogur School of Fine Arts.
This is my fourth exhibition and my second in this hall. I have held a flower exhibition, a water lily exhibition and a mixed exhibition, but this is my first exhibition with a marine theme.
The inspiration for these works in this exhibition comes from the shores of Spain primarily where art first awakened in me, but also from the ocean around Iceland. The ocean has always been very mysterious to me and holds secrets that we have yet to discover. The ocean can give you both peace and unrest, depending on the weather.
The ocean is as changeable as our inner self. The ocean is also the heart of the earth, as it gives us oxygen and is the basis of all life on earth.
There will be a special exhibition opening on Thursday, February 5th from 18:00-21:00 and you are welcome!
Other opening hours
Fri 6th Feb 14:00 – 22:00 Sat 7th Feb 12:00 – 17:00 Sun 8th Feb 14:00 – 17:00
