On Sunday, September 14th from 13–15, Hafnarborg invites Icelandic-, Ukrainian-, and English-speaking families to take part in a workshop where participants will create a straw ornament called a “Pavuk,” led by artists Viktoriia Leliuk and Anne Rombach.

Together we will learn about ancient Ukrainian traditions and celebrate the magic of the autumn harvest! In the workshop, we will assemble a “Pavuk” (spider), a traditional Ukrainian decoration made of straw. Although the “spider” is often associated with Ukrainian Christmas customs, it originates from ancient connections to the earth and the power of the harvest. September is therefore the perfect time to learn how to make this protective charm, meant to bring atmosphere and coziness to our homes throughout the year.

Viktoriia Leliuk is an interdisciplinary artist from Kyiv, Ukraine. She continuously pursues her artistic practice, whether through collage, murals, handicrafts, or analog photography.

Anne Rombach is a German artist living and working in Iceland. She studied photography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig and earned her MA in Fine Art from the Iceland University of the Arts, where she is now continuing her postgraduate studies in “Arts and Welfare.”

In My Language is a program series designed to increase access to Hafnarborg for people of diverse backgrounds by welcoming guests in different languages. The event is a collaboration between Hafnarborg and GETA – a support association that, through diverse events and community work, seeks to foster inclusion and positive multiculturalism. The project is supported by the Museum Fund.

The workshop takes place on the ground floor of the museum and is open to all age groups. No prior artistic experience is required, but children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As always, participation in the workshops as well as admission to the museum’s exhibitions is free of charge.

Моєю мовою – багатомовний воркшоп «Павук»

У неділю, 14 вересня, з 13:00 до 15:00, Хафнарборг запрошує ісландсько-, україно- та англомовні сім’ї взяти участь у воркшопі зі створення солом’яного павука під назвою «Павук». Майстер-клас проведуть художниці Вікторія Лелюк та Анне Ромбах.

Давайте разом зануримося у світ давніх українських традицій та відсвяткуємо магію осіннього врожаю! На воркшопі ми створюватимемо талісман «Павук», традиційну українську прикрасу із соломи. Хоча павук часто асоціюється з різдвяним декором, його коріння сягає глибших вірувань, пов’язаних із магією землі та врожаю. Вересень – ідеальний час, щоб створити такий сильний оберіг, який принесе гармонію й затишок у наші домівки на цілий рік.

Вікторія Лелюк, мультидисциплінарна художниця з Києва, Україна. Вона постійно в процесі творення — від колажів і муралів до крафтових проєктів і плівкової фотографії.

Анне Ромбах, німецька художниця, яка живе й працює в Ісландії. Вона вивчала фотографію в Академії образотворчих мистецтв у Лейпцигу та здобула ступінь магістра образотворчого мистецтва в Ісландському університеті мистецтв, де наразі навчається на програмі «Мистецтво і добробут».

«Моєю мовою» – це серія подій, спрямована на те, щоб зробити Хафнарборг доступнішим для людей з різним культурним і мовним досвідом, запрошуючи гостей до музею різними мовами. Подія організована у співпраці з Хафнарборгом та GETA – неприбуткової організації, яка працює над створенням більш толерантного та інклюзивного суспільства через різні заходи. Програму підтримує Музейний фонд.

Воркшоп відбудеться на першому поверсі музею. Він відкритий для людей будь-якого віку та рівня навичок, але діти повинні бути в супроводі батьків чи опікунів. Як завжди, участь у воркшопі та вхід на виставки музею є безкоштовні.
