From 7–10 May 2026, clean-up days will take place in Hafnarfjörður under the banner LET’S CLEAN HAFNARFJÖRÐUR. During this period, residents of Hafnarfjörður can dispose of garden waste in containers located in all neighborhoods, by each primary school.

The containers will be placed at the schools from the morning of Thursday 7 May (Ascension Day) until 17:00 on Sunday 10 May. Residents of Hafnarfjörður are encouraged to make use of this service or deliver their bags directly to Sorpa.

Special attention is drawn to the fact that Sorpa accepts garden waste free of charge. Please note – the containers are for garden waste only.

Let’s take an active part – make use of the service

Residents are encouraged to use recycled packaging or reusable bags during the clean-up. Please note that garden waste must not be placed in the containers in bags; it must be emptied directly into the container. Where possible, it is also recommended to collect garden waste in a compost heap in a suitable place in the garden and use it for composting.

Residents in all neighborhoods of Hafnarfjörður are encouraged to take an active part in the clean-up. In the run-up to the clean-up days and during the period itself, it is an excellent opportunity to lend a hand in the garden, trim shrubs and tidy flower beds.
