The Christmas village is buzzing with life and excitement for Christmas, and the beautifully decorated Christmas houses have long since become nationally known for all kinds of exciting gift items, delicacies, handicrafts and design. This is the perfect place to look for the perfect Christmas gift while enjoying delicious refreshments that warm you up from the inside and out. Yule lads visit the village all weekends and their mother Grýla will also be wandering around town on Sundays.

Strandgata from Lækjargata to Linnetstígur will turn into a pedestrian street while the Christmas Village is open. This is done to spread pedestrian traffic around the town center and ensure the safety of our good guests

• Cold Lights / Köldu ljósin– Exhibition Opening at Hafnarfjörður´s Heritage Museum (Byggðsafnið)
• 17 – 20 Thorsplan – Photo shoot with Santa Claus on stage

Saturday, December the 14th

• 13 – 14 Hafnarfjörður´s Library – Live illustrations and entertainment with the troll Tufta and Brian Pilkington, illustrator
• 14 – 15  Thorsplan – Tufti greets children in the Christmas Village
• 13 – 18  The glass house at Thorsplan – Trefjar will be in the area with their fire pits
• 15 – 17  Hamarskotslækur Festival, held at Hafnarborg
• 17:00 Hafnarfjörður´s curch / Hafnarfjarðarkirkja: Festival in town: Christmas couple concert

Sunday, December the 15th

• 13:00 Kaldárhlaup 10 km run, a race from Hamarskotslækur to the ocean. Buses leave from Hafnarfjarðarkirkja church at 12, noon.
• 13 – 18 The glass house – The Psychic Research Society
• 13 – 15 Hafnarborg – Christmas Card Making at the Museum
• 14:00 Thorsplan – Grýla hands over medals for the Kaldárhlaup race

Christmas in Hafnarfjörður

The Christmas Village at Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend from November the 15th. Fridays from 17:00-20:00., Saturdays and Sundays from 13:00-18:00 and until 21:00 on the 23rd of December (Þorláksmessa). The café in Hellisgerði will be open during the opening hours of the Christmas Village, always until 20:00. Special attention is drawn to the fact that the Hjartasvellið Ice skating rink and the Tivoli at Venusarhús, Strandgata 11, are as well open every weekend until Christmas.

The Heart of Hafnarfjörður

Thursdays – Saturdays from 17:00-22:00. The Christmas heart of Hafnarfjörður is located in the Advent tent behind Bæjarbíó. Ideal for moms and dads, grandparents and groups of friends to come and enjoy a bite to eat and a Christmas drink with each other. It will be possible to buy Tilveran’s resturant Christmas lobster soup from 17:00-20:00 on all opening days.

Orienteering game in the town center

Take part in a Christmas ritual in the Christmas Village and find the thirteen Yule lads, Grýla, Leppalúði and the Christmas cat! The game is about finding the thirteen figures on lampposts all around the town center. And how does one play the game? Next to each pole there is a card with the Yule lad´s name and a QR code. Scan the code in order to find the right letter to write down. The letters then form a short sentence that must be submitted electronically. A help sheet can be obtained at the Library, the Heritage Museum (Byggðasafn Hafnarfjarðar), Hafnarborg museum, in the glass houses at Thorsplan or download it here. You can participate until December the 22nd. Participation prizes will be awarded on Þorláksmessa, December the 23rd. More information here.
