The first day of summer in Hafnarfjörður

The first day of summer 2025 will be celebrated with diverse celebrations all over Hafnarfjörður!

Kl. 12 The Víðavangshlaup race in the center of Hafnarfjörður

Warm-up starts at Thorsplan at 12:00, noon. Competitors will be divided into age groups after the warm-up. The race will run along Strandgata. There is no participation fee for the race and registration takes place by showing up. Winners in categories receive trophies and all competitors receive a medalion that is donated by the town of Hafnarfjörður. After the race, the FH athletics department will present athletics at Thorsplan. There it will be possible to try long jump and shot put. Strandgata will be closed to all car traffic during the race and until the parade departs from Thorsplan to Víðistaðatún at 13:15.

Kl. 13-16 Open house at the Þytur Sailing Club, Strandgata 88

Beginners and experienced sailors are invited to sail kayak (9 years and older) or rowboats. Those who have experience can sail keelly, if the weather permits it.

Throughout the summer, there will be an open house at the Þytur Sailing Club on Thursdays from 5 to 10 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

12:30 The Barbari Quartet at Hafnarfjörður´s Library

A tradition has arisen to sing in the summer at Hafnarfjörður´s Library. This year it is the Barbari Quartet who are going to sing for us. There will be coffee on site, refreshments and hopefully sun and summer warmth and definitely joy and spring winds at the library with this wonderful singing band on site!

13:15 Parade from Thorsplan to Víðistaðatún

The parade will go from Thorsplan out to Strandgata, through Bæjartorg, into Vesturgata through Merkurtorg, Vesturtorg and Flókatorg, Flókagata and turn into Hraunbrún and up Garðavegur and end at Víðistaðatún under the trumpet of the Hafnarfjörður Music School Brass Band.

13:30-16:30 Family program at Víðistaðatún organized by the scout association Hraunbúar

Fun and varied scout program for the whole family at Víðistaðatún and in the scout center Hraunbyrgi. Coffee shop in Hraunbyrgi and a sales house at Víðistaðatún where cotton candy, slush ice and popcorn will be for sale and more.

16:00 BMX BRÓS on the tennis court at Víðistaðatún

BMX BRÓS will be at the tennis court at Víðistaðatún with a bike show full of joy, humor and risk!
