Winter Festival 2026 – Get inspiration for planning the program

How is it best to enjoy the Winter Festival in Hafnarfjörður? There is plenty on offer; evening swimming, music bingo, more great music, lectures and workshops. Here are two suggestions to make life easier for those of you who have no idea what to choose from this box of treats.

Plan A

Friday night on Museum Night

• 19:00 at Hafnarborg. Tónaflóð – sound healing with Vala Gestsdóttir

Then run over to the museum…

• 20:00 at Byggðasafnið. Bryndís Björgvinsdóttir, folklorist, gives the talk: Álfabyggðir og bannhelgi í Hafnarfirði: Connections between superstition and perspectives on nature.

Then head straight to the Sívertsen House

• Friday 18:00 to 22:00. Annríki will show national costumes and jewelry inspired by the traditional baðstofa works.

Saturday on Pool Night

• 17:00 at Ásvallalaug. Free entry and water polo in the main pool.

From one pool to another. Enjoy Pool Night to the fullest.

• 19:00 in Suðurbæjarlaug. Music bingo – bingo and music under one roof.

Sunday afternoon

• Between 18:00 and 22:00 in the Heart of Hafnarfjörður. Hafnarfjörður Church, Hásalir and the Hafnarfjörður Music School illuminated with beautiful colors. A great opportunity for an ice cream drive.

Plan B

Friday night on Museum Night

• 18:00 at Pakkhúsið. Telescope workshop where you can craft your own telescope.
• 18:30 at Pakkhúsið. Take the chance to listen to the Scouts playing carefully selected songs.
• 19:30 at the Library. Enjoy more music as the band LEA performs.
• 20:00 by Fjarðarkaup. Catch the 15-minute photo show by Fókus, the amateur photography association, on the LED sign by Fjarðarkaup. The show repeats hourly.

Saturday on Pool Night

• Splash around in Suðurbæjarlaug between 18:00 and 22:00.

Sunday afternoon

18:00 to 22:00 in the Heart of Hafnarfjörður

• Just like in Plan A, it is worth taking a drive around and enjoying Hafnarfjörður Church, Hásalir and the Music School lit up in colorful light in the midwinter darkness.

Explore the full program in Hafnarfjörður during Winter Festival 2026. The festival is held from 5 to 8 February. Winter Festival takes place across all six municipalities of the capital area. Numerous artists take part in 150 events and create a unique atmosphere across the region.
