Improvements to playgrounds and soccer fields

Hafnarfjörður has various playgrounds and soccer fields, and every year maintenance and renovation work is carried out, based on certain priorities. The past few summer months have included improvements to quite a few playgrounds around town. Service center employees have worked on these projects with contractors.

At the end of last year, new exercise equipment was installed at the Víðistaðir area, including climbing ropes, lifting rods and a cycle bench.

The small playground at Fuglstapaþúfa, in Þúfubarð, was renovated at the end of last year, with new ground substrates and playground equipment.

Recently, the ground substrate at the playground at Furuvellir was replaced. Playground gravel was removed and replaced with artificial turf and rubber slabs under the play equipment. New grass was also installed along the play area.

A few weeks ago a renovation of part of the substrate in the play area at Skipalón/Vallarbraut was completed, in addition the slide was renovated, a new swing was installed and and some new grass was planted.

Ideal to try new play-grounds/fields

We encourage residents to familiarize themselves with the variety of playgrounds and soccer fields on the town’s map website. It can be good fun for the whole family to try different grounds/fields in their area or between neighborhoods.
