Vesturkot preschool celebrated its 30th anniversary

Vesturkot has been operating for thirty years

Vesturkot preschool celebrates 30 years. Teamwork was at the top of the mind for Vesturkot’s principal Særún Þorláksdóttir when the milestone was celebrated last Friday. The oldest children sang for the guests to a great applause.

“Teamwork, enjoyment of life, freedom, happiness, friendship, love, ambition, understanding, patience and creativity are qualities that employees experience here in Vesturkot,” said Særún in a short speech to the party guests, former and current employees of the preschool and the town´s staff. She explained how the school had evolved and what was on their mind at this juncture as well as what the oldest children answered when they were asked about Vesturkot.

“They said it was fun to be in the gathering hall and go out and play.” She read sentences quoted by the children. “He’s my friend. I love Vesturkot every day. I love him and I always want to be there.” They wanted cake, cars, milk and to enjoy time their friends.

“I’m incredibly proud of the school and all the staff here,” said Særún during the celebration. “Preschools, no matter what their orientation, always have the goal of making children feel comfortable, making them independent and socially strong to cope with life and the next level of school. Promoting creative thinking and caring about themselves and others.”

Vesturkot Preschool is located at Hvaleyrarholt in Hafnarfjörður. Nature is only a short distance away, as the ruffled lava is at the foot of the meadow and only a short distance to the beach. Around, 84 children between the ages of 18 months and six years are enrolled in the Vesturkot preschool.
