The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður opened last weekend when the lights were lit on the Cuxhaven Christmas tree! The Christmas Village is full of life and excitement leading up to Christmas, and the beautifully decorated Christmas huts of Hafnarfjörður have long been known nationwide for all sorts of exciting gift items, gourmet treats, handicrafts, and design. It is the perfect place to look for the ideal Christmas gift while enjoying delicious food and drinks that warm you from within. The Yule Lads visit on weekends, and Grýla will also wander through town on Sundays. Strandgata becomes a pedestrian street while the Christmas Village is open.

Regular Christmas events in Hafnarfjörður

Café in Hellisgerði, Hjartasvell ice rink, and the tivoli

The Christmas Village on Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend from November 14; Fridays from 17–20, Saturdays from 13–20, and Sundays from 13–18. It will also be open on Monday, December 22, from 17–20, and on Þorláksmessa from 13–21.

In Oddrúnarbær in Hellisgerði, Helliskaffi will be open from November 14 on Thursdays from 17–21, Fridays from 17–22, Saturdays from 13–22, and Sundays from 13–21.

Special attention is drawn to the fact that the Hjartasvell ice rink and the tivoli by Venusarhús at Strandgata 11 are open every weekend leading up to Christmas.

The Christmas Heart of Hafnarfjörður

Thursdays to Saturdays from 17–22. The Christmas Heart of Hafnarfjörður is in the Advent festival tent behind Bæjarbíó. It is an ideal place for parents, grandparents, and groups of friends to come by for a bite to eat and a Christmas drink. Tilveran’s Christmas lobster soup will be available from 17–20 on all opening days.

Treasure hunt in the town centre

Take part in a Christmas treasure hunt in the Christmas Village and find the thirteen Yule Lads, Grýla, Leppalúði, and the Christmas Cat! The game is about finding the thirteen figures on lampposts in the town centre. And how do we play? Each post has a sign with the name of a Yule Lad and a QR code. Scan it to find the correct letter, write it down, and collect them all. The letters form a short sentence that must be submitted online. A help sheet can be picked up at the Library, the Museum, Hafnarborg, and the greenhouses on Thorsplan, or downloaded here. Participation is open until December 22. Prizes will be awarded on Þorláksmessa. More details here.

This is done to spread out foot traffic in the town centre and ensure the safety of our guests.
