The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður has received an outstanding reception this year. The atmosphere has been beautiful. Fjörður has opened new shops just steps away from our lovely village. Strandgata is full of life.

The Christmas Village, with its beautifully decorated Hafnarfjörður Christmas houses, has long been known nationwide for its exciting gift items, gourmet treats, crafts and design. It is the perfect place to search for the ideal Christmas gift while the family enjoys delicious food that warms from within.

The Yule Lads visit on weekends and Grýla will also wander around town on Sundays. Strandgata becomes a pedestrian street while the Christmas Village is open.

Regular events throughout Christmas in Hafnarfjörður

Cafés in Hellisgerði, the Ice Heart rink, and the carnival

The Christmas Village at Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður is open every weekend from 14 November: Fridays 17:00–20:00, Saturdays 13:00–20:00, and Sundays 13:00–18:00. It will also be open Monday, 22 December from 17:00–20:00 and on Þorláksmessa from 13:00–21:00.

In Oddrúnarbær at Hellisgerði, Helliskaffi is open from 14 November on Fridays 17:00–22:00, Saturdays 13:00–22:00 and Sundays 13:00–21:00.

Special attention is drawn to the Ice Heart rink and the carnival by Venus House, Strandgata 11, which are open every weekend until Christmas.

The Christmas Heart of Hafnarfjörður

Thursdays to Saturdays from 17:00–22:00. The Christmas Heart of Hafnarfjörður is located in the Advent Festival Tent behind Bæjarbíó. It is an ideal spot for parents, grandparents and groups of friends to enjoy food and a Christmas drink. Tilveran’s Christmas lobster soup will be available from 17:00–20:00 on all opening days.

Treasure hunt in the town center

Take part in the Christmas treasure hunt in the Christmas Village and find the thirteen Yule Lads, Grýla, Leppalúði and the Christmas Cat. The game is about finding the thirteen figures on lampposts in the town center. How do you play? At each post there is a sign with the name of the Yule Lad and a QR code. It should be scanned to find the correct letter, which you then write down and collect. The letters form a short phrase that must be submitted electronically. A help sheet is available at the Library, the Museum, Hafnarborg and in the greenhouses at Thorsplan, or can be downloaded online. Participation is open until 22 December. Prizes will be awarded on Þorláksmessa. More about this here.

It is the perfect place to look for the ideal Christmas gift while enjoying delicious food that warms the heart. The Yule Lads visit on Saturdays and Grýla wanders around on Sundays. Strandgata, from Lækjargata to Linnetstígur, becomes a pedestrian street while the Christmas Village is open. This is done to distribute foot traffic around the town center and ensure the safety of our guests.
