The Christmas Village in Hafnarfjörður has received outstanding attention this year. The atmosphere has been beautiful. Fjörður has opened new shops just a stone’s throw from our lovely village. Strandgata is full of life.

The Christmas Village, with its beautifully decorated Hafnarfjörður Christmas houses, has long been nationally known for a wide variety of exciting gifts, gourmet treats, crafts, and design. It is the perfect place to find the ideal Christmas gift while the family enjoys delicious treats that warm from the inside.

The Yule Lads visit on weekends, and Grýla will also be roaming the town on Sundays. Strandgata is transformed into a pedestrian street while the Christmas Village is open.

Cafés in Hellisgerði, Hjartasvell, and amusement rides

The Christmas Village at Thorsplan in Hafnarfjörður will be open every weekend from 14 November; Fridays 17:00-20:00, Saturdays 13:00-20:00, and Sundays 13:00-18:00. It will also be open Monday, 22 December 17:00-20:00, and on Þorláksmessa 13:00-21:00.

At Oddrúnarbær in Hellisgerði, Helliskaffi will be open from 14 November: Fridays 17:00-22:00, Saturdays 13:00-22:00, and Sundays 13:00-21:00.

Special attention is drawn to Hjartasvell and the amusement area at Venus House, Strandgata 11, which are open every weekend until Christmas.

Christmas Heart Hafnarfjörður

Thursday – Saturday 17:00-22:00. Christmas Heart Hafnarfjörður in the Advent festival tent behind the Town Cinema. Perfect for parents, grandparents, and friends to enjoy a snack and Christmas drink. Christmas lobster soup from Tilveran will be available 17:00-20:00 on all open days.

Citywide Christmas scavenger hunt

Take part in a Christmas scavenger hunt in the Christmas Village and find the thirteen Yule Lads, Grýla, Leppalúði, and the Yule Cat! The game involves finding the thirteen figures on lamp posts in the town center. How do you play? At each post, there is a card with the Yule Lad’s name and a QR code. Scan it to find the correct letter, write it down, and collect all letters. The letters form a short sentence that must be submitted digitally. A help sheet is available at the Library, the Museum, Hafnarborg, and in the greenhouses at Thorsplan or can be downloaded here. Participation is open until 22 December. Prizes will be awarded on Þorláksmessa. More here.
