You can save about 170 thousand with a shorter preschool stay

Improved preschool day in Hafnarfjörður

The parents of a preschool child who shortened his stay in the preschool from 8.5 hours to 7.5 hours a day reduced the payment of almost ISK 15,500 in the first month. If they manage to keep the shortening on the child’s day, the savings will amount to 170 thousand ISK on an annual basis.

The municipality of Hafnarfjörður changed the structure of the preschool day this past September. The professional work was then made more concise, to lasts from 9 to 15 during the day. Fees for the children’s shorter stay also decreased significantly. On the other hand, parents and guardians pay the same price as before for a full day of preschool.

Newly improved preschool structure = New price list

Changes in the structure of preschool stays is a part of creating stability in the work, reducing staff turnover and shortening the length of time children stay in preschools, when possible.

Parents’ flexibility varies and this is provided for in Hafnarfjörður’s new price list for the children’s preschool stay. They can be long one day but short the next, if it suits the parents. The municipality of Hafnarfjörður therefore encourages parents and guardians of preschool children to look at their day, see if they can shorten their child´s stay and at the same time save some funds.

Saving 160 thousand per year

Let’s take another example: The parents of another preschool boy succeeded in shortening their child’s preschool stay from 8 hours a day to 7. Thereby, they reduced their monthly payment from 41,040 ISK to 26,460 ISK per month, or about 14,560 ISK. The savings amount to ISK 160,380 per year.

So, do you want to save some money?

Parents who are in a position to shorten their children’s stay can now save up to ISK 231,880 per year by shortening the preschool day:

• Shortened stay from 8 hours to 7.5 = 80,190 per year
• Shortened from 8 hours to 7 = 160,380 per year
• Shortened from 8 hours to 6 = 231,880 per year

The municipality of Hafnarfjörður therefore encourages parents and guardians to look at their child’s preschool day and compare it with the family’s schedule. Is all the time used? If not, some extra money can be found. Their stay can be changed through Vala.
