The Hafnarfjörður Work School offers fun and educating jobs for teenagers in the town.

Work period and hours

Work period

The work period is from 14th of May to 31st of August.

 

Working hours

The daily working hours of teenagers depends on age.

Working hours for teenagers who are 14 years old are 3 hours per day, Monday–Thursday (12 hours a week). Every other week, work hours are before noon (9:00–12:00) and the other week after noon (13:00–16:00).

Working hours for teenagers who are 15 years old are 3 hours per day, Monday–Thursday. Some days, teenagers may work all day if they need to complete their hours. Every other week, work hours are before noon (09:00–12:00) and the other week after noon (13:00–16:00). 

Working hours for teenagers who are 16 years old are 5 hours per day, Monday–Thursday. Each teenager can work up to 135 hours.

Working hours for teenagers who are 17 years old are 6 hours per day, Monday–Thursday. Each teenager can work up to 220 hours.

The lunch break does not count towards working hours. Exceeding the total hours is not allowed. 

Summer hours

  • Teenagers 14 years old work 81 hours.
  • Teenagers 15 years old work 105 hours.
  • Teenagers 16 years old work 135 hours.
  • Teenagers 17 years old work 220 hours.
