A brand new soccer hall inaugurated in Hafnarfjörður

New soccer hall revolutionizes Haukar’s sports life

Haukar’s brand new soccer hall was inaugurated on the 14th of February. The contractors of the build, ÍAV, formally handed over the structure to the town, and an operating agreement was signed between the sports association Haukar and Hafnarfjörður. Pastor Arnór Bjarki Blomsterberg consecrated the house, which is over 11 thousand square meters in size.

“This is a great milestone that we celebrate.” says Valdimar Víðisson, mayor of Hafnarfjörður.

“This building is of enormous importance for the sports life in the town and the people of Hafnarfjörður as a whole. Hafnarfjörður is a sports town and this magnificent building is a testament to how ambitious we are when it comes to the development of sports facilities. Sports are the best prevention and a building like this attracts more practitioners, young and old,” says the mayor. “To Haukar and all the people in Hafnarfjörður, congratulations on the new building. I am proud of this great progress in our town.”

A magnificent building

Magnús Gunnarsson, chairman of Haukar, welcomes the new building. “We have waited a long time for better facilities and this new soccer hall is a revolution for the soccer league, as well as our entire club. It’s a magnificent building.”

Magnús says that even though the house is arched and large, it is magnificent. “There is a lot of glass in the building. So we capture nature and people feel good here. The building takes good care of us and I am convinced that players and spectators will enjoy many happy moments in the house, as it is one of the most magnificent soccer halls in the country,” Magnús says and adds that the hall is not only for soccer fans.

“There are tartan lanes here that run around the soccer field itself. We think of it for senior citizens and other groups who can then use the hall during the morning hours. We will consider how we meet requests for the use of the building in the best possible way.”

Breaking ground in 2021

The soccer hall has risen rapidly. Rósa Guðbjartsdóttir, former mayor, broke ground for this new soccer hall on Monday, April the 12th in 2021, on Haukar´s 90th anniversary. The last rafter went up at the end of February, a year ago.

Haukar say that with the arrival of this magnificent soccer hall, a dream becomes a reality. The building will completely change their entire facility. It is expected to go into full use soon.
