Schools operation in Hafnarfjörður during strikes

BSRB members and BSRB associations members working in elementary schools and afterschool programs (support staff and leisure instructors) in Hafnarfjörður have called a strike as follows:

• From 12:00 a.m. Monday May 22nd. 2023 to 12:00 p.m. Monday May 22nd 2023
• From 12:00 a.m. Tuesday May 23rd. 2023 to 12:00 p.m. Tuesday May 23rd. 2023
• From 12:00 a.m. Wednesday May 24th. 2023 to 11:59 p.m. Wednesday May 24th. 2023

No one can participate in the work of these staff members except the principal. In case of a strike all elementary/grunnskóli in Hafnarfjörður will be closed during this time:

• Monday 22nd – School is closed until 12.00 pm. At 12.00 school is as normally. Leisure activities and the opening of community centers are unchanged.
• Tuesday 23rd – Children come to school for the first two lessons, then they go home and arrive again at 12.00. Leisure activities and the opening of community centers are unchanged.
• Wednesday 24rd – Children come to school only for the first two lessons and there will be no more school that day. Leisure centers are closed. The activities of community centers are unchanged.

The strike has a great affects on the school meal times and support for individual students. It is possible that the school will contact the parents of children with high specific support needs. It can be expected that there will be no telephone response during the strike. Parents are encouraged to follow the media and on the school’s website.
