Sports and leisure grant

Apply for grant

Seniors can receive leisure activity grants in the form of income-linked subsidy for sports and recreational activities, up to ISK 4,000 a month. You can apply for the grant on My Pages. There is also no charge for seniors in the town’s swimming pools.

Janus health improvement

Hafnarfjörður is a proud collaborator with Janus heilsuefling, which is focused on improving senior health and quality of life.

Included in the service is:

  • Cardio-vascular training once a week.
  • Strength training twice a week.
  • Progress monitoring.
  • Educational meetings.
  • Closed Facebook group.
  • Access to health app.

Janus heilsuefling is located at Lífsgæðasetur St. Jó. Apply on the Janus website. The sports and leisure grant are applicable.

Hjallabraut 33

Hjallabraut 33 offers various services for older people:
• Physical training. Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:45. For further information, call 585-1912.
• Hair Salon Tel. 565 3680 for appointments.
• Beautician/Podiatrist Tel. 866 6015 for appointments.
• Canteen.

Sólvangsvegur 1

  • Scheduled grocery trips to Bónus from Sólvangsvegur 1, Tuesdays at 14:00.
  • Canteen.

Day program for seniors

You can apply for day program at Hrafnista, Sólvangur or Drafnarhús (people with dementia). Social activities as well as rest are offered.

Support for people dealing with loss

Sorgarmiðstöð (the grief centre) supports people dealing with loss and everyone who wants to assist people dealing with grief. At the grief centre you can attend various lectures, join a support group, take part in deep relaxation sessions, and walks or take courses. The grief centre is open to all.
