Outstanding Contributions to Environmental Initiatives and Local Beautification

The Town of Hafnarfjörður is inviting residents and all interested parties to submit nominations for awards recognizing outstanding contributions to environmental initiatives and the beautification of the town.

The awards may be given to individuals who clean and enhance their surroundings out of personal initiative, as well as to property owners or specific areas in Hafnarfjörður.

Selection for the awards will be based, among other things, on submitted nominations, and everyone interested is encouraged to send in nominations through the town’s website by September 14th. The application deadline has been extended by half a month.

Open to Broader Nominations

For years, the Environmental and Executive Committee has awarded recognitions for beautiful gardens, neat and attractive houses, impressive new buildings or streetscapes, as well as exemplary commercial properties. This year, as last, nominations are open more broadly, as beauty truly exists in many forms; both in the environment and, importantly, in the people themselves and their contributions to environmental efforts. Diverse submissions highlighting the efforts of individuals and businesses are especially welcome, serving as inspiration for others. Many small contributions together create something significant.

The nomination deadline is September 14th.

Award selection will be based, in part, on submitted nominations. Residents, visitors, business and institution staff in Hafnarfjörður, and other interested parties are encouraged to highlight what they consider exemplary in environmental efforts. Nominations can be submitted through the registration form below or sent by email to ingibjorgs@hafnarfjordur.is. Awards will be presented at a ceremonial event in Hellisgerði in September.
