Street sweeping and high-pressure washing within neighborhoods

Spring sweeping of streets, sidewalks, and paths in Hafnarfjörður is now well underway, and this year the service has been further enhanced. In addition to regular sweeping, high-pressure washing will now also be carried out on streets within neighborhoods specifically to improve the quality of the environment and the experience for residents and visitors. Work began immediately after Easter on cleaning the town’s main routes, and that phase will be completed in the coming days. At the same time, path cleaning began, with main paths addressed first, followed by other walking and cycling paths. Traffic islands and other selected areas are also being high-pressure washed.

The town divided into neighborhoods

Hafnarfjörður is divided into 17 neighborhoods, with one neighborhood addressed each day. The day before sweeping takes place in a neighborhood, signs are put up with information about the operation and residents are informed as far as possible. In addition, text messages are sent to all residents who have their phone numbers registered at 1819.is. Street sweeping within neighborhoods began in the town center today.

The Municipality of Hafnarfjörður encourages residents and businesses to take an active part in the cleaning effort. It is important that streets are free of cars on the day sweeping takes place so that curbs and areas between parking spaces can be properly cleaned. At the same time, it is an ideal opportunity to sweep or tidy up the immediate surroundings. Through joint effort, the whole town will become neater and more attractive as spring progresses.
